This is DaVeeda when she was 20 years old she was living in Ohio, preparing to attend a university. One day she received a phone call from her grandmother asking her to come back to Philadelphia. She told DaVeeda she could not find her house. DaVeeda asked her to read her the address of the house she was standing in front of as her grandmother read the numbers, DaVeeda realized her grandmother was standing in front of her own house. She immediately dropped her plans for a college education, returned to Philadelphia and along with her cousin took care of her grandmother until the day she die four years later. She recently graduated from community college as a straight “A” students with plans to get her undergraduate degree. May 25, 2013.

Jacquelyn. Many people think that taking care of my parents is an extraordinary thing, but I am an ordinary person. as a girl I watched my mother care for her sick cousin. My mother said she never forgot how cousin Frankie helped care for my grandfather. As a teen my mother traveled to care for her sister and eventually brought her to live with us. That’s how I found out my father could cook better than my mother. When I think about where they came from and what they scarified for me, there is no other choice. I do know I would not be able to care for them without the support and generosity from my extended family of friends and neighbors. May 17, 2013.
